Erich Neumann met Carl Jung when he was only 27.  He attended analytic therapy sessions with Carl Jung then 30 years his senior.  The experience for Neumann was transformative.

Erich Neumann met Carl Jung when he was only 27.  He attended analytic therapy sessions with Carl Jung then 30 years his senior.  The experience for Neumann was transformative.

Carl Jung became his Mentor and Teacher, and opened him to deeper layers of meaning. What Neumann saw previously as concrete became symbolic, the symbolic which could birth new meaning. He found a world view which he cherished, explored and wrote about for the remainder of his life - a transparency between outer and deeper realities, which offered an ability to see the divine IN the world.

Carl Jung wrote to Erich Neumann:

“Your formulations are brilliant, and of incisive sharpness.”…also the   powerful impetus for future developments.  For this I am most deeply grateful.”

- 2015, Analytical Psychology in Exile

The imagery to which Neumann refers in his writings on the development of consciousness is readily seen in Sandplay scenes created in a Jungian therapeutic process.

In this seminar Heather will offer clinical sandplay therapy material related to Erich Neumann's stages of development, developing ego to effective ego-Self axis. The seminar will track archetypal imagery in sandplay therapy with both children and adults, showing how Neumann's concepts find form in the imagery of sandplay.

The role of the attuned therapist will be considered, including respect for the regressive and progressive movement of psyche and its resonance with Neumann’s posited stages of development.
