The term Surveillance Capitalism was coined by emeritus Harvard University academic Shoshana Zuboff in essays in 2015 and 2016 and further elaborated in her 2019 book “The age of Surveillance Capitalism - The Fight for a Human Future at the New Frontiers of Power”.

According to Zuboff, Surveillance Capitalism ls something new and manifest in the business models of big data companies like Google and Facebook. It derives profits, primarily, if not entirely from markets for consumers’ intended future behavior in a process that can be characterized as selling access to the real-time flow of people’s daily lives, or their personal realities in order to provide a means of behavioral modification.

Surveillance Capitalism thrives on public ignorance by operating behind obfuscating camouflage like secretive corporate practices and masterful rhetorical misdirection, producing a form of psychic numbing that inures people to its realities.

The exoteric nature of Surveillance Capitalism which is well known and broadly discussed offers very little insight into its true purpose and direction. To understand these, we need to look backwards and delve into its esoteric side, by understanding its archetypal roots.

Robert’s investigation finds these roots deeply embedded in the rich nourishment of the ancient Egyptian religion, specifically in the Hall of Double Justice and on the Sun God’s Journey through the 12 hours of the night. Whilst historically interesting, the true significance of this finding is the insight it gives into the underlying processes at work.

Armed with this knowledge we can reassess Surveillance Capitalism’s modern-day appearance and reach a deeper understanding of where technology is heading and what this means for the future of humanity, which all in all would be a very handy thing for us to know, particularly as the COVID-19 pandemic forces us ever more deeply into its embrace.
