Zoom Presentation - Individuation in Clinical Practice: Jungian perspectives on inner processes of becoming with Kerrie Kirkwood

Kerrie Kirkwood will use Jung’s observation that “It is not I who create myself, rather I happen to myself” as a point of departure to describe how an aspect of the theory of individuation can be used therapeutically.

She will draw on Jungian and post-Jungian theories as well as her own clinical material to illustrate the difference between an individual who appears to be working through the process of individuation, and someone who has authentically engaged with their unconscious, and as a result is living through the unfolding of their unique ‘happening’.

Kerrie will also speak about the foundational psychological structures which need to be in place for both patient and therapist to make it possible to work at this level.

Kerrie Kirkwood is an ANZSJA Training Analyst who has been in private practice since 1999.  Previously she was employed with the Department of Corrective Services for 17 years, gaining extensive experience in working in the areas of addictions, personality disorders, dual diagnosis and grief and loss. Building on this body of experience she has developed an understanding of how repetitive patterns can, through therapy, form the basis of an individuation process.
